VETS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS - Gender Neutral
We trialed a new approach in 2023 which worked extremely well and was very popular for those who participated - we are therefore repeating the format for 2024!
A handicap system will be in play for ALL matches including the final.
The handicap is very simple to operate:
Done in less than a day!
All rounds including the final will be played on Sunday 2nd June starting a 9.15am. Players in each round will play one set comprising 7 games* with sudden death on first deuce. Matches will take approximately 20-25 minutes to play.
Successful pairs will move through each round until the finalists have been determined.
The FINAL will be played after lunch at approximately 13:00pm.
FINAL > PLAY FORMAT: It’s a Fast Four format : matches will be played as the best of two (2) short sets (first to four (4) games) at 3-3 play a tie-break first to 7 (2 clear). If the match goes to a third set, play Championship tie-break first to 10 (2 clear).
We have tested the timings and if all goes well, we should be wrapped up by 3pm.
VETS Plate Tournament
A plate tournament is a knock-out tournament where the first round losers go into a second alternative knock-out tournament, with an eventual winner. This means that every entrant is guaranteed at least two matches.

**VETS qualifying age: Must be 55 years old or over on the day of the tournament.

The handicap is very simple to operate:
- If you and your partner win the first game, the next game starts at 0-15 (ie your opponents have a 15 point start, however, should you and your partner lose, you will have a 15 point start in the next game.
- If you lose two successive games, you start the following game with a 30 point start, and continue starting with 30 points until you win and then it drops to 15 etc...
- To avoid total confusion serving with a points start is always from the appropriate side for the point being played ie deuce side for 0 and 30, and advantage for 15.
- The maximum points start is 30
