A NEW FORMAT
VETS SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
In previous years it’s proved difficult to get knockout rounds played in good time (if at all). So, this year we’re trialling a new approach.
Done and dusted (including the final) in an afternoon!
All rounds including the final will be played on Sunday 2nd July starting a 2pm. Players in each round will play one set comprising 7 games* with sudden death on first deuce. Matches will take approximately 20-25 minutes to play.
Successful pairs will move through each round until the finalists have been determined.
In order to even the field we'll play a handicap system for the knockout rounds as follows;

In order to even the field we'll play a handicap system for the knockout rounds as follows;
- If you lose the first game, you will have a 15 point start in the next game.
- If you lose the second game start the third game with a 30 point lead. If you’re on a losing streak, you start the next game after each loss with a 30 point start until you win a game. As soon as you win a game play the next game 15 up. Should you win a game playing at 15 up, reset to 0.
- To avoid total confusion serving with a points start is always from the appropriate side for the point being played i.e. deuce side for 0 and 30, and advantage for 15.
- The maximum points start is 30
THE FINAL will be played at approximately 5pm followed by a BBQ and prize giving. The Final will take approximately one hour playing the FAST 4 FORMAT.
Fast 4 format : Matches will be played as the best of two (2) short sets (first to four (4) games) at 3-3 play a tie-break first to 7 (2 clear). If the match goes to a third set, play a Championship tie-break first to 10 (2 clear).
Finalists can opt to play standard tennis scoring (no handicap) but only if both players agree.
