A NEW FORMAT

VETS MEN'S SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS
In previous years it’s proved difficult to get knockout rounds played in good time (if at all). So, this year we’re trialling a new approach.

Done and dusted (including the final) in an afternoon!
All rounds including the final will be played on Sunday 2nd July starting a 2pm. Players in each round will play one set comprising 7 games* with sudden death on first deuce. Matches will take approximately 20-25 minutes to play.
Successful pairs will move through each  round until the finalists have been determined.

In order to even the field we'll play a handicap system for the knockout rounds as follows;
  • If you win the first game, the next game starts at 0-15 (i.e. your opponents have a 15 point start, however, should you lose, you will have a 15 point start in the next game.
  • If you lose two successive games, you start the following game with a 30 point start.
  • If you’re on a losing streak, you start the next game after each loss with a 30 point start but reset to 0 as soon as you win a game.
  • To avoid total confusion serving with a points start is always from the appropriate side for the point being played i.e. deuce side for 0 and 30, and advantage for 15.
  • The maximum points start is 30

THE FINAL will be played at approximately 5pm followed by a BBQ and prize giving. The Final will take approximately one hour playing the FAST 4 FORMAT.

Fast 4 format : Matches will be played as the best of two (2) short sets (first to four (4) games) at 3-3 play a  tie-break first to 7 (2 clear). If the match goes to a third set, play a Championship tie-break first to 10 (2 clear).

Finalists can opt to play standard tennis scoring (no handicap) but only if both players agree.

Please support the event by entering: complete the online form below.

BBQ
We want to make the afternoon fun and sociable. All VETS** are welcome to participate as players or spectators. If non players only want to drop by later to watch the final and enjoy for the BBQ they are most welcome.

We need to know catering numbers so please complete the online form below.

TIMINGS
  • Refreshments &  biscuits on arrival and during the event.
  • BBQ  & prize giving at approx. 18:00 (after the Final).

Players/spectators can come and go as they like and should not feel obligated to stay for the entire afternoon. If you are knocked out in the early rounds, there’s no reason why you can’t pop home and come back later to watch the Final and enjoy the BBQ and a beer afterward.

*Depending on the number of entries this may need to be adjusted up/down.
**VETS qualifying age: Must be 55 years old or over on the day of the tournament.
