wstc summer 2015 championship tournament
Report & Pictures
Wow the summer finals have been and gone and what a day!
Super woman Mel fought tooth and nail but was unable to vanquish bionic woman Lena in 6 hours of combat, singles, ladies doubles, mixed doubles and beer drinking. The first set of the singles lasting over an hour - I'm exhausted just thinking about it! Well played ladies but can you finish a bit earlier next year so we can get on with the serious business of eating, drinking and dancing. To top it all Lena was still bopping away at 10.30, I have to admire Mr David ‘Six million dollar man' Kirby a man of great stamina no doubt.
The 2015 Ladies doubles champions were Lena and Sally with runners up Mel and Micky, and in the Mixed doubles Lena and Jon defeated Mel and Robi in a very tense and closely contested match.
In the men's singles 'experienced consistency' won over 'youthful brilliance' - well played champion Ian and runner up Sam, watch out next year for the march of youth.
In the men's doubles, Phil & Ken the unstoppable duo reigned victorious over favourites Sam & Mike in a nail biting, roller coaster of a ride that went to the wire in a three set final 6-3,0-6,6-3. What happened there I ask myself?
And after...
The new social secretary Louise with flair and charm put on a wonderful Mexican evening with great food, great music and a great atmosphere thoroughly enjoyed by fifty plus people…... the last social secretary was Rory whooooo? The bar has been raised, watch this space for the next social Pimms evening on 8th July, live streaming tennis from Wimbledon - Men's quarter finals on the big screen, ohh and if the mood takes you, you can play some tennis too…. it is a tennis club afterall!
Special thanks to music maestro Neil, you could give up the day job but don't tell Sue.
Also thanks to Denise, West Surrey's wiz with a towel, works best after a big glass of red.
And thanks to Malcolm for manning the bar and everyone else who behind the scenes helped in some way!
Finally, congratulations to Scilla and Robin Sitwell who celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on the evening, what a lively bird Scilla is, one of the most energetic on the dance floor. Neil played Pretty Woman which was their wedding song, and it's still appropriate today.
From our very own ace reporter Rory CP.
