Four Skill Levels
These Levels are adapted to suit Mini’s, Juniors, and Adults
Level 1 - Beginners
This covers racquet and ball skills, and basic skills for the forehand, backhand, volley, smash and serve. The emphasis is on ‘having a go’, and being directed and encouraged every step of the way.
You can complete a voluntary assessment, which has around 30 simple skills tests, of increasing difficulty. But there is no failure! We just tick off each test that you successfully complete – such as 5 consecutive serves within a target area – so you can track your progress. We can provide you with a Record of Achievement, showing which tasks you have completed and which ones you have left to do.
Level 2 - Intermediates
This covers topspin and backspin groundshots, and accurate volleys, half volleys, lobs and smashes, and flat and sliced serves. The aim here is to develop a broad range of skills, and a solid technique, that will prepare you to play the game at a good social level, or competitively if you want to.
You can, again, complete a voluntary assessment, with around 40 skills tests of increasing difficulty. As with Level 1, there is no ‘failure’ – we just tick off what you have done, and can provide you with a Record of Achievement showing your progress.
Level 3 - Competitive
At this level, we will help you to improve the power, consistency and accuracy of your all round game, including powerful topspin groundshots, confident net play, top spin lobs and high bouncing ‘kick’ serves. The emphasis is on training and drilling a wide variety of shots so that you will have the confidence and technique to play winning tennis under pressure.
To assess your progress, you can take a one-hour skills test covering around 20 elements from this Level (e.g. topspin backhand return of serve to a target area) and you will be given an overall percentage score. Players can assess their progress by trying to beat their best score, and complete the Level when they have achieved 70%.
Level 4 – Advanced Competitive
This Level builds on Level 3, and is designed to make tournament players stronger and more successful. As well as developing more power and accuracy in your core game – serve, return of serve, and baseline rallies – you will train hard and work on improving every aspect of your competitive play.
Again you can take a one-hour skills test covering around 20 elements, and be given a percentage score to assess your progress in core skills.
